OCCUPIED.MEDIA is the first Ukrainian national media outlet dedicated to coverage of the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine. It was founded in 2024 by Andriy Dikhtiarenko and the team of Realna Gazeta, an exiled media outlet from Luhansk in the east of Ukraine, the area occupied by Russia since 2014.
About 18% of Ukrainian territories have been occupied since 2022, more than 150 local media outlets exiled due to total censorship and violence against media professionals and enthusiasts, and millions of Ukrainians suffering under occupation or forced to leave their homes and break ties with their hometowns. There has been significant international interest in those territories and local need to spread information about them internationally.
The purpose of the OCCUPIED.MEDIA is to meet their needs by serving as a platform of high-quality information and analysis, searching, accumulating and spreading the available information, both in Ukrainian and English. It is a national media outlet and a network of local media outlets focused on developments in their communities under occupation. We are delivering content based on precision, balance, integrity, and clear sources.
